GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® Method for Singers
Great singing is not just about musical talent, but it also requires a great physical structure.
Are you comfortable in your body when you sing?
Is your mind quiet when you sing?
Ever feel like you have too much air or not enough?
Do you clutch or collapse at the end of phrases?
Do you have certain habitual physical gestures that you can’t seem to let go of or live without?
Are you able to focus on your joy of musical expression and communication?
Do you experience pleasure when you sing?
Many fine voice teachers teach well from the neck up, but ignore, speak little about or can’t really explain what happens from the neck down. If you lift your heels, stand on your toes, lock your knees and/or experience neck and jaw tension, your body isn’t supporting you or your voice well. It’s dissected and some of those dissected areas are overworking and others are working very little or not at all. The simple movements and breath work of GYROTONIC® training can integrate all those dissected areas so your singing can flow effortlessly and you can enjoy being in your body communicating all that beautiful, expressive sound. You use only the effort you need when you need it. No more wasted air or running out of breath. Your body can unlock and create space wherever and whenever it needs to. You can get unstuck!
Follow the pathway: If we open and release the grip in the feet, the foundational release allows your ankles and knees to unlock, your pelvis and lower back can release their grip and widen and lengthen, and the external layers of the chest, scapulae and sternum sink so the internal structure of the ribcage can expand in all directions. Then on this foundation, the jaw, tongue, throat and neck are free to operate as needed. Easy, no?
